Why you need the Clairefontaine 1951
At this price, the Clairefontaine 1951 is an affordable everyday luxury notebook. The paper is thick (90g versus Rhodia's 80g) but not stiff, still decadent and perfect for fountain pens. In my experience the paper is also smoother than comparable papers, and the pages are white but not glaring, so ink colors are true. The textured cover is sturdy and lovely, and the binding on the green journal is a beautiful contrasting deep teal. The line spacing is fairly wide - perfect for handwriting practice with a soft fine nib! The binding seems more stiff than it actually is, and can easily be convinced to lie flat without unattractive creasing on the outer cover. At this price point, this is not a notebook to be saved only for a "special" purpose. Buy a few, start an idea journal, a commonplace, a penmanship journal, and make any day special.
