Description This Namiki Chinkin fountain pen in the Crane design was created by a collaboration of maki-e artists (Kokkokai) in Japan. The pen matches the Yukari size, has an 18k gold nib and fills via the included Pilot CON-70 converter. Cranes are commonly seen in nature in Japan. Namiki illustrates the beauty and elegance of this beautiful bird with the ancient art of Chinkin whereby lines and dots are scrapped by a metal scrapper and then inlay with gold powder before the final application of natural lacquer. The Namiki Chinkin Pen Collection is made up of fountain pens which use Chinkin (Gold Inlay) a lacquer-ware technique that Japan boasts is on par with Maki-e. Motifs are carved into the lacquered surface with special chisels, then lacquer is inlaid into the grooves, and strategically placed gold leaves and gold powder gives the pattern expression. The delicate and fine depiction, and three-dimensional aspect that overflows with a strong power of expression are the special characteristics of this collection. Since Chinkin is a carving technique, there is no room for mistakes, and every single carve is a true challenge in the sense of the word. These pens are truly one-of-a-kind works of art, and they are warrantied for life by Namiki, and they come packaged in a velvet lined wooden box. Please note we are unable to accept a return of this pen for any reason once it has been inked.
