Lovely Ink...Gorgeous Color
I recently purchased a Pelikan M200 in Smoky Quartz and, while I'm not one to match my inks to my pen colors I thought it would be nice to find a color that matched this particular pen. I hadn't previously tried Private Reserve, and have heard a few negatives about how it behaves in pens, but thought I would give it a try.
This is an absolutely lovely, rich red-brown ink that flows quite nicely. It gets only 4 stars, however, because it takes ages to dry (the last thing I wrote took about 15 seconds!!) and it really hasn't much subtlety or shading. Given the fact that it's in a pen with a gold nib, I would have expected to see much more variation in the lines, especially on the downstrokes. I didn't try it for colorfastness because in general I don't worry about that with colors other than black or blue.
I'm not sorry I bought this and i might buy another sample sometime, but I'm not overly fond of ink that takes so long to dry and that seems to be rather flat on the page when I expect otherwise.
