Pillow Book - a collection of widely read Japanese essays written during the early 1000s is the theme of this new series from the Sailor Pen Company. Various subjects were touched in this collection of poems and anecdotes, however one that was frequently mentioned are the four seasons. This inspired Sailor to introduce the first in their annual release of the Pillow Book series - the Midnight Sky. Its rich dark blue hue with rhodium trim is reminiscent of a cloudless summer night with the full moon in clear view and fireflies dancing around.

Sailor Pro Gear large Fire

Because this is a Sailor, the pen writes well every time with no hard starts. I chose the MF nib, and it's true that it lays down a slightly wetter line than a Sailor F--but that's an attractive feature. My only quibble (and the reason I gave the pen only 4 stars) has to do with its size. The choices were King of Pens, Large, and Slim. Maybe I should have been more attentive to the pen's measurements, but when something is advertised as "large" I guess I have certain expectations. It's the same size as my Aurora 88. I can use the pen but I would never have called it "large." But I'll overlook the size because of how nicely the pen writes!
