Venus XF nib for vintage Esterbrook pens
I prefer extra fine fountain pen nibs, and have long used the vintage Esterbrook "Master Renew-Point" 9450 (extra firm posting) nib as the performance standard by which all XF nibs (past or present) are measured. The current production Venus XF nib for vintage Esterbrook pens compares favorably to my 9450 nib collection. Writing less than half a page worked through the Venus nib's initial scratchiness. The Venus nib puts down an XF line very comparable to my 9450 nibs. The Venus nib line is slightly bolder than the 9450's due to the Venus being a wetter nib -- not a bad thing, as many Esterbrook posting nibs don't deliver quite enough ink to the business end, and are prone to dry-out between uses. At its $10 price tag, I believe that the Venus XF nib is a very workable option for vintage Esterbrook users.
