best of black
I compare Faber-Castell Carbon Black with Aurora Black. The latter is usually compared to J. Herbin Perle Noir, with preferences fairly evenly divided between the two. My own preference is Faber-Castell Carbon Black. It has the same rich velvet flow of Aurora Black, but is one stage more saturated. Highly recommended.
Shadow at midnight Black, Great!
I had been searching for a very deep black and was disappointed by some other inks (Parker/Cross). When I started writing with this ink, I realized what part of the problem was, the rough nib was causing inconsistent application of ink. A quick nib polish with 3 micron sandpaper fixed the application of ink, and a beautiful deep ebony line was revealed. Lesson: a bad nib can make a good ink underperform. Sometimes you need a good nib to really see how fine an ink is. Now, I am a very happy camper with this ink, flows well with a consistent line of a rich unmistakable flat carbon blackness.
